How often have you been sitting in a movie theater or in your own family room watching a DVD and had the thought: “My life is way more interesting than this!”?
Have you ever been in the middle of a parenting catastrophe and imagined the scene acted out on the big screen? I certainly have. I fear that this is the curse of the blogger–always looking at life in terms of what a good story it would make.
As a mother of 5 children, I have amusing experiences daily that would make good movie scenes. From the time that my preschooler questioned me about my water bottle that she thought was broken….(“Mom, I thought you said that your water broke when you had the baby!”) to the day when I heard my husband tell another child to stop eating the peanuts off the toilet seat….to the hilarious moment in the hospital when an intern saw me with my new baby (my 5th) in the pediatrics ward and asked me, “How old ARE you?” How about the time when my daughter and soon-to-be big sister was playing doctor with a friend….and I realized with horror that she had been taking in a little bit too much from the regular OB check-ups she was tagging along to. My life is full of funny stories.
My movie would be a comedy for sure. My movie would leave everyone laughing out loud, with mothers everywhere crying happy tears that they weren’t the only ones who had dealt with the harshest of parenting moments. I admit, much of motherhood doesn’t feel funny as you’re living it, but looking back (or looking at it through another’s eyes) sure brings out the comedy in it.
I could ask one of my good friends, Minnie or Uma to play the part of me in the movie….
PS–as a side note, meeting these gorgeous women totally motivated me to lose some weight. I am happy to say that I am down about 8-10 lbs from last October when these shots were taken!
Or I could go with the gorgeous Julia Ormond, who a recent blog reader said looked like me….
Here’s some coolness: Hyundai and Glamour Magazine are partnering to search for a series of moments from real moms (like me and you!) to create Reel Moments on Hulu, where Hollywood A-List women get behind the camera and direct a short film for their first time. Reel Moments Glamour reel 2 is responsible for launching 14 directorial debuts by some of the most powerful women in Hollywood over the past five years. Before you read any further, check out Kate Hudson’s popular Reel Moments film, an awesome and poignant story which stars Virginia Madsen, Dakota Fanning and the uber-popular Kristen Stewart.
So who would play the part of YOU in a movie about your life as a mother? Would your movie be a comedy like mine or a drama? Maybe (gasp!) a horror film?
Do you have a favorite story that you think would make a good short movie?
Disclosure: Hyundai and Glamour Magazine, along with JuiceBoxJungle, are sponsoring me to write about some of my favorite parenting moments and to encourage others to share their own, with hopes that a big A-List Hollywood star will direct it on the big screen, like this short film Kate Hudson did with Glamour Reel Moments. I am sure my opinion of you will be better once we meet in person. You are so funny! And I am just glad I still know what romance is as I sit here on the computer and my husband is playing the Wii haha!

I just hope that your opinion of my will not completely fall when you meet me in person. I am really not that cool! But I admit I’ve had some pretty cool life experiences! Oh, and I look more like Julia when my hair is darker….and I’m skinnier. ;)
I love the fact that your life is such a romance!

K you just get cooler everyday I know you. I want to be like you when I grow up… Oh wait we are the same age! Oh and you totally look like Julia Ormond except you are more modest hehe!! ( a little LDS humor for you) I think Julia Roberts would have to play me because she does so great in romantic comedies which is what my life is like although there is usually more comedy and less romantic.
My hubby and I were watching a commercial for some show about isolating people and how they would act and we joked that I would just curl up in a ball and sleep because I need some peace and quiet around here!

Cracking up!! There’s another good question to pose to readers….Which existing movie is most like your life? I’m going to have to think about that one!

Now I’ll always think of you as Mrs. Walton! I think with my family I’d definitely be like a Mrs Brady…or maybe I’d be more like Alice, now that I think about it…

You are too funny, Harriet! I’m sure there are at least a few people who’d pay money to see a movie about you! (like at least an ex boyfriend or two…)

Wow! Those are great shots :)
Sadly, there’s already a movie out that emulates my life very well.
Groudhog’s Day.

Hmmm… your making me think today..since my kids are now gone from the home..and in college or being mommies themselve!… Wish I could say I was the Leave it to Beaver mom..or Mrs. Brady…Oh..but I think I would have to be Mrs. Walton…always having to make something from nothing…but doing a good job of it… :) Sounds like fun..Oh, and I REALLY would want Cathrine Zeta-Jones to play me..well that is if i was not light brown haired..and well slightly bigger…:) Congrats on the weight loss..I need to join you! blessings Shi~

If they made a movie about my life, they’d have to pay people to see it :)
Stopping by to say hello!
