Manage Your Spring-time Allergies

Saturday, May 22, 2010 by Lolli 7 Comments

I am an allergy sufferer.

Spring might have been my favorite time of the year had it not been the season of sneezing, watery, itchy eyes (which turn to dry itchy eyes at night), coughs, and itchy throats.

To manage my allergies, I have tried:

  • • prescription and non-prescription allergy medicines
  • • closing the windows and using the air conditioning all Spring and Summer
  • • drinking more water
  • • stocking up on lots and lots of tissues
  • • avoiding the outdoors
  • • watching the forecast
  • • cleaning my house more often
  • • using vacuum cleaners with better filters
  • • and crying. Yes, sometimes that’s all I can do to manage my allergies

In fact, I have blogged about my allergy woes a few times in the past, and was recently contacted by HALLS® to try a new allergy management step. Halls sent me two different varieties of their cough drops to add to my daily allergy treatment regimen.

Halls allergy Wellness

Here’s what their website about using HALLS® alongside your allergy medicine: “During allergy season, inhaled irritants like pollen, grass and trees can trigger irritating coughs and scratchy, sore throats. While allergy medication provides the all-day relief you need, HALLS® helps out as a complement to your allergy regimen. HALLS® starts working within 10 seconds to soothe your allergy related cough and sore throat.”

How did it work for me? Well, I take my allergy medicine with breakfast every morning, and sometimes the morning can be the toughest time of the day for me, with windows open and the fresh morning breeze coming in. And plenty of allergens to make my nose go crazy. I really did notice a difference when I popped a Halls cough drop in my mouth. My nose immediately cleared up with the soothing menthol, and I loved feeling the instant relief. It made my morning go just a little bit more smoothly.

The GIVEAWAY: HALLS® gave me two bags of cough suppressants to give away to one of my readers. All you have to do to enter is to tell me what you do to manage your allergies.

Giveaway ended. Winner is Mrs McFadden of McFadden Family Adventures. Congrats!

This giveaway will end on Monday, May 31 at midnight, and winner will be notified by email. For extra entries, you are welcome to tweet, like me on Facebook, stumble, follow, subscribe, etc. Just leave me a separate comment. Good luck!

Disclosure: I received two packages of HALLS® to facilitate my review, but the allergy experiences and opinions are all mine.

I have cystic fibrosis along with allergies in the spring. One thing that helps me a lot with the allergies is using the Neil Med sinus rinse. I LOVE it!!

I go outside when it seems to be less intense, at night or in the morning, not when it is scorching hot!

Try eating local honey. It’s supposed to help give you immunities to the local pollin. Local is the key though, you have to find honey that is made by local bees.

I purchased a Neti Pot a few years ago and it was the best decision I made. Sure, on really high pollen count days, it’s not a solo answer, but it does help to clean out the nose and sinuses.

I have found if I am outside more as the season develops I react less. When I am inside ALOT (like our extended winter in OH) when I go out my system is shocked. Halls sounds good about now!!! Very good to know there is another helper to the allergy competition! ;)
