Motivation

Monday, November 5, 2007 by Lolli 1 Comment

Well, guys, I need some help. I was doing a pretty good job meeting my exercise goal (I really want to look and feel good when I leave on my cruise in December). I had a great routine down–I exercised to videos 4 days a week after Reese left for preschool and Apple went down for his nap. I even lost about 5 lbs. Woohoo! Then I got sick. I was able to keep up with the exercise through most of my cough, but once I came down with a lovely UTI, I just couldn’t keep it up. All of the work I’d put into getting into a routine went down the drain (or maybe the toilet…heehee!). Last week, I finished my Rx….so I should have gotten right back into Tae Bo and Pilates, right? Hmmm. I made it on one measly walk around the neighborhood (which Apple slept through, by the way, which made him miss his nap. Argh!) Why can’t I get myself motivated to exercise again? I think that maybe I need some accountability outside of myself. Help me find my motivation again!

By the way, Karen, if you read this….I felt like you were speaking to me (or about me!?) today in RS when you made your comments about remembering to do the things that you had set goals to do, both personally and with your family. Sometimes I feel like a big dud of a mom. I have so many great ideas, plans, etc etc….why is it so hard to be that person that we all invision for ourselves? It’s nice to know that I’m not alone, at least. :)

Now for a better example of motivation….Not me! Most of you know that PB has had unexplainable sleep problems for the last 7 years or so. The guy who used to sleep anywhere and through anything now can’t stay asleep at night and spends his days feeling tired. He has been to dozens of doctors and tried dozens of treatments and meds. Not much has helped. Just this last week, he went to an acupuncturist (his second) who told him that he was too “damp” (I don’t know enough about it to explain it well here) and that he needed to change his diet to eliminate damp-producing foods. Of course, it’s just about everything he loves…dairy (he’s a big milk & yogurt consumer), peanut butter (he has a pb&j almost everyday), and sugar (including most fruits and all juices). For the first few days, he kept lamenting over not being able to drink anything with FLAVOR. It is SO hard to change a diet, but he is very dedicated. Very motivated. And amazingly, he’s feeling SO much better. I just feel bad every time I make a fruit smoothy for breakfast or grab a candy after dinner (which I shouldn’t be eating anyway!)

Ahh! Motivation! This week, I’ll be better…
