No Question About It

Tuesday, August 4, 2009 by Lolli 1 Comment

I’m her daughter.

After spending the majority of last week with my mom, much of which time was spent driving in the car, I was struck by how much my mom and I are alike.

That’s not to say that I am a carbon copy of her. We are unique in many ways. But in so many ways–from the completely insignificant to the relatively important–I am just like her, and that makes me happy. And proud.

I am sad that we live on opposite Coasts, that my time with her is always too short. But maybe, just maybe, the limited time together makes me appreciate her all the more.

When my mom visits, I never get enough sleep and my house ends up being a mess by the end, but that is not because Mom is a burden. It’s simply because we want to soak up as much time together as possible, and those other things just aren’t important enough. She would clean my house from top to bottom if I asked her to, but that’s not what I want from our time together.

Thank goodness I get to see her in two weeks, when I take my yearly solo trip to her house for Education Week at BYU. It’s the highlight of my year. If I didn’t have that trip coming up so soon, I don’t think I could have handled saying goodbye to her yesterday. I miss her so much already.

Please excuse our make-up-less, travelled-out appearance here. Despite it, I love these pictures from last week’s trip to Pennsylvania. She’s my mom, and I love her more than anything.
