On Justin Bieber and Puberty

Wednesday, January 11, 2012 by Lolli 10 Comments

I fear that it’s time to have an in-depth sit-down conversation with my soon-to-be 11 year old son. Just this afternoon, as I sat on my couch taking a much-needed break, I overheard a conversation between my son and his 8 year old sister.

As usual, I was tuning out their conversation until my ears perked up to two words:

Puberty and Justin Bieber.

(Yes, I do realize that it would actually be three words, but it didn’t have quite the same ring to it…)

So I started listening, and heard older brother, in an authoritative voice, explain to his little sister, “If I asked any of the guys at my school who has had more puberty – me or Justin Bieber – I think most of them would say me.”

He has two older sisters but I fear that his puberty education is rather lacking. If he’s talking about pre-teen appetite, then YES he’s quite advanced for his age. Feet growing like a weed? Yes, he’s got that, too. Puberty? As in the real thing? Oh, please. Can we wait just a little longer to delve into that world?

Parents of teenage sons….I think I’ve got the teenage girl thing under control. But what in the world am I supposed to do with a teenage son?

As much as I really don’t want to have this conversation, I am very curious why my boy considers that he’s “had more puberty” than Justin Bieber.

Oh, the joys of being a mother.

Dad, I think I’ll let you take this one….

Oh boy – I am dying to know what he meant by “puberty”! I am so lost when it comes to my boys most of the time, and they aren’t even near “puberty” yet. Good Luck!

Ha! And to compare your amount of puberty to Justin Bieber’s amount of puberty???!!! Like Justin is THE authority on puberty. Oh my! I’m still smiling. Thanks so much for sharing!

    Sarah:)

I’m sure I WILL cry. And I am definitely letting my husband do the majority of the talking about that kind of stuff. I have my hands full with three girls, anyway.

They’re the same ages as mine! Oh, it was hilarious, especially the way he was talking as if he knew SO much about it. :)

I’m dying that he thinks he’s experienced more puberty symptoms than Justin Beiber! lol Too funny! Thankfully, my husband helped out with the male puberty talk. I will tell you this, though. You’ll probably cry when he shaves for the first time. I did. :(

PS My son is going to be 17 in March!!!

He has more puberty than Justin Beiber? Oh my goodness. This has me in stitches! I can see this conversation playing out with my 10 and 8-year-old sons. Hysterical!

My twins are constantly asking me questions about Justin Beiber like I’d know. Why does he wear lipstick? Do I think his lipstick is just chap stick? Why does he wear makeup? Why does he sound like a girl? :)
