One World, One Love – Michael Bolton

Tuesday, May 11, 2010 by Lolli 1 Comment

Guess who was on Ellen last week? Were you watching?

I’ll give you a hint:

He has sold more than 53 million records, won multiple Grammys for Best Male Vocalist and countless other honors, earned a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, and sold out arenas worldwide. He has also sung with Luciano Pavarotti and Ray Charles, written songs with Bob Dylan, Ne-Yo and Lady Gaga, penned hits for Barbra Streisand and KISS, played guitar with B.B. King and had his music recorded on a track by hip-hop superstar Kanye West.

Pretty impressive, if you ask me. It’s none other than Michael Bolton.

Michael Bolton’s newest album (his 18th!) was just released last week, and I had the privilege of previewing it before it came out in stores. I was shocked when I popped the CD in the CD player and heard music very different than I was expecting. Very refreshing and new. I certainly wasn’t expecting to hear a new but very familiar voice on one of the songs. Was that really Lady Gaga on the Michael Bolton CD? Why, yes it was!

Get this–in August 2008, Michael was introduced to a young, new artist (yep, it was Lady Gaga). No one had heard of her yet, but Michael instantly loved her sound. He said, “She reminded me of a young Madonna with more exuberance and emphasis on the art rather than the marketing. Her spontaneity and authenticity were beyond refreshing.” When they got together in a studio in LA Bolton told her, “if this is gonna work it has to slay people. And she immediately shot back ‘you murder my heart!’” That became the title of the song that they sing together on Michael’s new CD.

While I would not consider myself a die-hard Michael Bolton fan, I was very pleased with his new CD. There was a good variety of songs, and I loved the duets that he had with other artists. Definitely worth listening to!

Visit MichaelBolton.com for more info. You can also find Michael Bolton on twitter (@mbsings) and on Facebook. Michael is embarking on a 6-month World Tour through September 2010.

So what have you been listening to lately?

Disclosure: I received Michael Bolton’s One World, One Love CD from Universal as a member of Music Moms, but the thoughts about the CD are mine.

Great information. I had no idea that he helped Lady Gaga get her break. I’m excited to check it out. I actually liked the old Michael Bolton too.
