This past year I’ve had the chance to take some pretty incredible trips. I’ve traveled from coast to coast, seen movies before they’ve come out in theaters, met famous people, and stayed in fancy hotels. Glamorous, sometimes, exciting, always. But never with my family. A much as I love traveling on my own, I do miss being able to share some of these incredible experiences with my kids.
So when I had the opportunity to take my two boys with me to New York City for a day and a half, I jumped on it. OK, I admit I had some hesitations initially. This trip was just two days before my huge trip to BlogHer, also in New York City. I knew it was insane to try to fit one more trip in during this crazy month of travel, but the chance to share it with my boys tipped me over the edge.
Yes, it is a LOT harder to travel with kids. Yes, kids get tired and cranky and have lots of demands. Yes, walking through the streets of NYC while trying to keep tabs on two curious and distractable boys is not the most enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.
But are these photos and memories worth it, or what??
(The answer to the able question, in case you wondered, is a definite yes!)
The boys were able to meet an idol (author Jeff Kinney of the Diary or a Wimpy Kid fame) as well as two movie stars who are kids like them (I could see Twizzler, who is heading to middle school in a few weeks – yikes! – relating with Zach and Robert, who are the actors who play the part of Greg and Rowley in the movies).
Now, in addition to some great memories with their cool Mom, these boys will be heading back from summer vacation with some pretty awesome bragging rights. Dog days of summer? Pretty cool days of summer, I’d say.
Movie review and interview details coming soon!
Travel and one-of-a-kind experience for my kids was free as part of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days screening in New York. Opinions, photos, and happy kids are all mine.
