Tonight the Opening Ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic Games will begin. The Olympic Games kick off TODAY, July 27, and run through August 12.

What’s YOUR Olympic Sport?

Unlike many young children, I never had hopes of being an athlete in the Olympic games. My chosen sport – ballet – never made it into the Olympics, but from a very early age, I was absolutely fascinated by gymnastics. I watched every gymnastics event in every Summer Olympics when I was a kid. If I could chose one event to compete in, it would definitely be gymnastics (just please don’t ask me to put my 30-something-year-old body into one of those tight suits now…).

Though my Olympic-hopeful days are long past, I would still love to participate in them somehow…from the stands, preferably! Just imagine if you could follow along with the Summer Olympic Games in person every four years? You’d be the envy of all your neighbors and Facebook friends, that’s for sure.

  40. when i was young i was AWESOME at high jump. mostly cause i was taller than most of my classmates lol. i think i would do that…if i didnt gain weight in the last year lol!

  48. I’d have to compete in gymnastics because at least I have experience in that… I’m afraid
    I’d let the team (and the country!) down really badly to compete in other events!

  178. Well, I’ve always loved the feel of either speed skating or swimming, but I think it would be amazing to do those flips like a gymnast

  222. I wish I could do gymnastics–I’ve always wanted to be graceful enough to be able to do that, and as a kid I did actually try it. I’m horribly clumsy, though, and far from the body type one really needs to be able to compete in such a sport at a high level.

  240. I would love to compete in Judo, Soccer (Football), Archery or Shooting. :) I have no hopes of ever being a Gymnast, Swimmer or Diver… LOL!

  398. I competed in quite a few track and field events (5km and high jump) but was never even close to be considered olympic ready

  421. I cheered for Gymnastics…was sad not to see Nastia there…so sad she got hurt before. I watched last night and was really routing for Jordyn Wieber..was sad she didnt make it to the final rounds. :( Ill be routing for Alexandra now! :)

  473. I have NO athletic talent at all, but I made a terrific volunteer when the Olympics came right to my home town! If they would send me, I would be a volunteer in every Olympic games until I’m 80 years old. It was such a great experience. Yay Team 2002!

  481. I’d probably compete in… um…. Volleyball, but I won’t get anywhere because Walsh dominates, I’d love to say Gymnastic but sheesh i can’t do one cartwheel properly let a lone what they do LOL
