Red, White and Blue Breakfast – Frenzy-Free Mornings

Tuesday, March 11, 2014 by Lolli 10 Comments

This post is brought to you by Domino/C&H Sugar via Mom It Forward. All thoughts are my own.

Mornings around here can be pretty hectic. I get up around 5:40 to make sure that the oldest two get out the door for their before-high-school class (thank goodness my oldest can drive herself and her sister to school every day!). Shortly after they leave, I get my oldest son up and make sure he gets breakfast, packs a lunch, and gets dressed for the day at the middle school (what is it about kids and wearing the same clothes over and over?). The last kids-shift starts at 7:30, when I start getting the two youngest kids ready for elementary school. They require a little more hands-on help from me. By that time, I’m usually fairly alert…and hungry, too.

Sometimes I grab some breakfast with the kids, but more often than not I’m spreading peanut butter and Nutella and cutting crusts off sandwiches. It’s not until I walk the youngest kids to school at 8:30 that I can turn my attention to ME. Since I’m not a fan of cold cereal, I look for unique breakfast options that can satisfy my hunger and keep my belly filled until lunch time so I can concentrate on work for a little while.

This past week, I was introduced to new flip-top canisters from Domino® (on the East Coast) and C&H® (on the West Coast) that make throwing together a quick and tasty breakfast even easier and tastier.

The free-flowing sugar in super-fun-to-hold hourglass-shaped canisters is perfect for sprinkling over fruit or a bowl of oatmeal or sprinkling in a smoothie or coffees or teas. The reclosable lid keeps the sugar fresh…and if my kids get ahold of them, they don’t make a big mess all over the kitchen.

I picked up some fresh berries at the grocery store this week, and I thought they would be the perfect way to build the perfect breakfast for me. Here’s how I made a quick and delicious Red, White and Blue Breakfast:

Slice 2-3 strawberries in a small bowl. Throw in a few blueberries or a few of your favorite berries. Sprinkle a small spoonful of Domino® Quick Dissolve Superfine Sugar over berries and stir. Spoon sweetened berries over 1/2 to 1 cup of low or non-fat cottage cheese.

When I eat cottage cheese and fruit, I honestly feel like I’m eating dessert. I love it! And eating a colorful breakfast in the mornings always puts a smile on my face. Doesn’t a colorful breakfast make the morning seem brighter?

Domino® has an awesome infographic about creating frenzy-free mornings. What are your best tips for keeping your mornings happy and productive?

I like the design of these, our sugar is constantly hardening in the bags and I hate using the bulky canisters to store it in.

I actually like plain cottage cheese. I am weird. But this might get my kids to eat it!
