Refreshing Summertime Drinks

Saturday, June 5, 2010 by Lolli Leave a Comment

It happens every year. A heat wave comes into town, making me crave time spent pool-side with a cold drink in my hands. But the kids are still in school and I am stuck working in my house. On a side note, I am seriously contemplating moving my computer down to the basement for the summer. The coolness of the under-ground basement play room is more than refreshing after being in my sunlight-filled upstairs room where I normally spend 80% of my time. I miss my big window when I’m downstairs, but I don’t miss being sweaty all day.

By the time the kids get out of school in mid June, the weather inevitably takes a turn toward cooler and rainier. But my taste buds have already developed that craving for cool beverages. Here are a few of the drinks I’ll have with me this summer:

1- Aquafina FlavorSplash flavored waters – Since becoming involved in the FlavorSplash ambassador program, I’ve become quickly addicted to my bottles of flavored water. You can bet that I’ll be carrying them around with me all summer long!
Just a little tip: Freeze your bottle of FlavorSplash about half way and then shake (tightly closed, of course). Yummy slushy! Just last night, KitKat mixed some Raspberry FlavorSplash with vanilla ice cream for a light shake.

2- Water, water, and more water. Plain old, basic water never fails, especially pool-side.

3- Soda! I don’t have soda at my house, and I don’t drink a lot of it, but I LOVE a nice cold glass of soda (Sprite, Coke, or Ginger Ale) and enjoy it while I’m out.

4- Yogurt smoothies – one of my favorite after-dinner snacks or breakfast drinks! I use a base of vanilla yogurt, and add OJ and berries and a few ice cubes. Ahh!

5- Orange Juice – My favorite juice. I can never have enough of it in the morning!

6- Milk shakes from Chick-fil-A. Double yum. And double cold. Mmmmm.

This cooling post was inspired by Mom Dot’s Small Talk Six topic of the day: List 6 of your favorite cold beverages. And a quick disclosure: I am a participant in a Mom Central campaign for Aquafina FlavorSplash and have received various FlavorSplash samples to facilitate my participation. Mom Central will send me a gift card at the end of the program.
