How did this happen? I’ve got a teenage driver.
I’ve spent all of my extra time this week running back and forth to and from the DMV getting my oldest daughter’s permit. And now that she’s got that little card in her hands….
…the driving lessons begin.
I feel a little bit like a first-time mother who is excited when her baby begins to walk and then discovers that life is a whole lot harder when baby is mobile…
Watch out world! I’ve got to teach my daughter how to drive!

In MT you can take drivers Ed at 14 1/2 and start driving on your own at 15! Thankfully our school district only offers the class one time a year, (May/June) so a few of my kids have to wait a little longer because they have to be 15 by dec 31st. We have the graduated license here as we’ll which is kinda a pain but really is a good thing. It’s the whole 6months of driving with mom or dad and recording the hours up to 50 in order to take the driving test to get the license that is the pain. I do like that they can only drive with 1 non-family member the first 6 months after getting their license. I hear ya on the cost of the class! I about died when Cody came home with the info sheet! Thankfully, I have a wonderful set of in-laws and they helped out with both of the older kids’s classes. Savanna will take it next summer, but she’s about half scared having experienced her brother and sister’s driving ???? ????!

The system here is totally screwy. Kids can take drivers ed anytime between their 15th birthday and when they get their license, but it is SO expensive, and I couldn’t afford it before now, so she’ll have to take drivers ed right before she gets takes her driving test. She’s eligible to take her driving test 9 months after getting her permit, so minimum 16 1/2. Yes, totally crazy!

Been there done that twice and will next summer be there again! Here they take drivers ed and then get the permit. A little less stressful…. a little! I cringe every time my child calls me and I know they are driving somewhere or should be driving somewhere, so sure that it is a “i got in an accident” call! Yeah, been there done that one a few times also! Fingers crossed for you both!~

I’m just trying to concentrate on the benefits – having a child who can run errands for me!

Haha! Yes, I do think I need some prayers for myself. :)

Oh my- my heart skipped a beat here when I saw this. These are the things that terrify me the most about being a parent. My son will get his permit in a year- I am not looking forward to it.

Oh the memories this brings back…my daughter and I were only in the car for five minutes the first time and she ran right into a mailbox?

Oh wow. I don’t even want to think about those days yet. I wish you lots of patience and many happy miles as you begin your driving adventure together.

My oldest is 8 yrs old and crazy about learning how to drive. However since he has 10 more years to go am just going to sleep over all his cravings to learn how to drive.

Funny, when learning to drive, we don’t get the worrying by our parents, but then it’s us, and holy sweet cow, it scares the bejeezus out of me..and we’ve still got 10 years!

Wow. My oldest is six, so right now driving seems a world away… but I am sure he will get there before I am ready for it!
