Tackling a New Generation of Stains #ShoutItOut

This post is sponsored by Shout®, but all thoughts and opinions are my own. Survey results courtesy of Shout®.

If you had told me 20 years ago, before I became a mom, that I would spend hours (literally hours) every week doing laundry, I don’t know if I would have quite grasped the magnitude of what that really meant. Five kids – and thousands of loads of laundry – later, laundry is simply part of my daily routine. My laundry room is a constant revolving door.

Shout - a new generation of stains

I remember when I was a kid, the stains that I got on my clothes were typically of the “natural” kind because I was always outdoors, running back and forth between my friends’ houses and my own house. I’m sure I supplied my mom with a fair share of grass stains and lots and lots of dirt-stained knees.

Dirt. It’s part of childhood! Two out of three parents agree that a messy kid is a happy kid, and half report that their kids have separate clothes for playing that are allowed to get dirty.

My kids have been lucky to grow up surrounded by green space in our neighborhood, along with plenty of neighbor kids to run around with. They’ve added a few stains to their clothes that I never blessed my mom with, especially tree sap (oh, how they love climbing trees!). Instead of the ketchup stains of my generation, they’re ending up with sriracha sauce. And instead of fruit punch stains, they’re ending up with kale stains from their green smoothies.

Classic stains? No problem. New gen stains? That’s another story. Americans are confident in their ability to remove three of the most common stains – mud (39.5 percent), ketchup/mustard (35.9 percent) and grass (35.2 percent) – but only a few are confident when facing sriracha (16.2 percent), kale smoothie (13.5 percent) or kombucha (12.4 percent).

I know my mom had an arsenal of products to combat the stains that my brother and sisters sent her way, and today I’ve got my own stain toolbox, which includes Shout® products. From the classic Shout® Trigger Triple-Acting Stain Remover to the convenient on-the-go Shout® Wipes (which are so convenient for stains that happen when we’re away from the house or when I’m traveling for my blog) I’m ready for almost any stain situation.

Worried about stains? You’re not alone. 22 percent of Americans avoid wearing their favorite outfit altogether if there’s even a chance of getting a stain. One out of every three Americans avoid wearing white because of stains.

A new favorite product from Shout® is their Color Catcher® sheets. Since most of my kids do their own laundry, I will inevitably open the washing machine to find all of their whites mixed in with their dark reds and blues and greens. Shout® Color Catcher® sheets absorb and help trap loose dyes in the wash so that your clothes are the same color at the end of the wash cycle as they were at the beginning.

Do your kids do laundry? Americans typically learn how to do laundry at the age of 14, but 16 percent of Millennials still rely on mom to do their laundry, more than any other demographic.

I love the message of Shout® – they want everyone (but especially us parents) to be able to enjoy stress-free family fun without worrying about stains….because at the end of the day, they’ve got your back.

Speaking of fun, a few weekends ago, The Color Run™ came to DC. My family loves to run (specifically my husband and my three youngest kids), and The Color Run™ is right up their alley.

Dad or Alive shared this photo of him and his team after they finished the Color Run in D.C.!

Have you heard about The Color Run™? The Color Run™ was founded in Spring 2011 to promote healthiness, happiness, and an active lifestyle. Known as “The Happiest 5K on the Planet,” The Color Run™ encourages Americans to get up and out and try something new…even if it means getting dirty in the process.

The Color Run™ is an un-timed 5K race with just two “rules:” wear white at the starting line and finish the race doused in colors. Instead of worrying about how fast they can run, runners have fun and get plastered in different colors throughout the course. Luckily, Shout® has teamed up with The Color Run™ for the second year in a row, so those white running clothes can be white again after the race.

Have you ever participated in a Color Run™? I can’t wait to do one with my family (although I know I’ll be painfully far behind my experienced runner family members!).

I love Shout and have used it for years and not just for my kids clothes but mine too, I am a sloppy eater some times, or a lot of times, even when I try so hard not to be lol. I have never used their color catchers sheets before but it sounds like a great product. The Color Run looks like a lot of fun!

Haha! I don’t know if you can call a mom that does laundry for a bunch of young kids lazy ;)

I am awful about sorting colors. Like really bad. Or maybe lazy.
