When my oldest son, now 14, was starting cub scouts years ago, I was his den leader. I was involved in every step of his progress. Now that my younger son (almost 10) is in cub scouts, my husband is his den leader, and so I have literally not been involved in his cub scout activities at all.
Not only are these two working closely together in scouts, but they are two peas in a pod. They’re buddies. And as much as I know that my youngest son loves me (he’s an affectionate guy) he is 100% a daddy’s boy. So it didn’t surprise me when he was adamant that he pin the “parent” pin on dad’s shirt, even though it is always, always given to the mom.
I just got to stand there looking silly for pictures while the newest BEAR scout was given his badges and beads and had paint smeared on his face.
But I take comfort in knowing that I didn’t look half as silly as AJ…
