When my oldest daughter started kindergarten more than a dozen years ago, I became aware of Box Tops for Education. As a young mother with a bunch of little ones at home, I often felt like there wasn’t much I could do to support my kids’ school, but I could collect Box Tops.
When we first began collecting Box Tops for Education, I was shocked at how many items we already had on our shelves and throughout our house that had Box Tops on them. Since that first year, and for the past 13+ years, our house has been a pretty dedicated collection site. Everyone has their eyes open for a Box Top on a label or box…and we won’t let any of them slip through the cracks and end up in the recycle bin. Ten cents may not seem like a lot, but it adds up FAST.
Tips for Collecting Box Tops for Education for Your School
- Have a designated collection spot at home. Whether it’s a drawer or a ziploc baggie or a dedicated Box Tops piggy bank, make it easy for family members to clip and drop.
- Get the whole family involved. Make sure that everyone knows to check boxes for Box Tops before tossing them in the recycle bin. Remember that Box Tops are not only found on food items.
- Buy more Box Tops for Education items when you shop!
- Involve friends and extended family, too! Grandma loves to collect Box Tops for us, and we gather all of her Box Tops whenever we visit her. She’ll even pack them in her suitcase when she comes to visit. It’s easy to ask friends and neighbors to keep their eyes open for you, as well. Since it doesn’t cost them any money (and hardly any time) most people are more than happy to contribute to your collection!
- Leave a jar or bag to collect Box Tops at work…same idea as above!
- Before you head out to shop, check the Box Tops for Education site for stores near you that are running promotions for Bonus Box Tops (see below for the latest Bonus Box Tops opportunity starting tomorrow (1/7/15) at Food Lion®!).
- Check the Box Tops for Education site for coupons for participating products to save when you go shopping.
- Participate in challenges and contests. Our elementary school sends home monthly collection sheets with space to tape or glue 10 Box Tops for Education. Each sheet is worth $1.00 for the school…AND an entry into a drawing. My kids have won the drawings a few times and come home ecstatic.
