After a morning blogger event in DC, I joined a few of my local blogger friends for a quick drive down to the National Mall to see the last of the season’s cherry blossoms.
Note: no drive to Downtown DC can be considered “quick.” In fact 5 miles in DC will usually take about 30 minutes. And parking? Good luck.
Luckily, my friend Safire and I were tagging along in Jill’s (aka Scary Mommy‘s) car, so we could enjoy some catching up as we navigated the City streets.
Once we hit the Mall area, it was quickly apparent that the recent rains had knocked down the last of the cherry blossoms. There wasn’t a single blossom in sight.
The kids didn’t mind. They ran up and down the river’s edge, throwing branches, dandelions, and potato chips into the water. There were 5 kids there between the 5 bloggers (Me, Safire, Jill, Cara, and Nic) who stopped by DC together. And none of the kids were mine. It was liberating. I do believe I was the most relaxed mom on the river today.
Can you believe I left my camera at home? Yes. I am a shameful photographer. Thank goodness for the iphone!

It’s all Instagram. :) I’ll send you a copy of the picture of the kids. Love that one! Just about to post the Instagram pics from the food bank.
How do you manage to make an iphone pics look amazing? I love the one of all the kids– so cute!!
happy Friday! Sounds like a wonder time!
Glad you found a good alternative to the blossoms.
How fun. Stinks all the blossoms were gone. :(
aw man, this makes me sad! I was planning on going into DC this weekend to see the blossoms and check out Spike’s (from Top Chef) burger restaurant! =(
Too funny that you didn’t have your camera. lol. You got some great ones though. I’d love ya to stop by and check out my spring photo challenge. https://weloveiowa.blogspot.com/2011/04/30-days-of-spring.html
Great shot of the subway!! Looks like you all had fun.
We can’t wait to take the boys to DC once Luke is a bit older. So cool!
Someday — SOMEDAY — I’m going to get to Washington D.C. to see the cherry blossoms (and the nine thousand other things I want to see there…)
There’s nothing more satisfyingly liberating to look around and realize that — at least for a short while — none of the kids are yours. And it’s okay. :)
I didn’t realize SO many of my favorite bloggers all live near you! How did I not know this? I have met most of them and yet I never asked (what a dummy I am! LOL)
I would TOTALLY be stressing with my kids standing next to that water too. HOLY!
LOVE that you are loving your iPhone so much :)
I’ve gotten into the habit of taking all of my pictures with the regular iphone camera, and then “editing” and posting them to instagram later. That’s what I did today. Plus, my internet was spotty, so I lose pics or edits when I try to post in the moment.
Wasn’t it?? As always is right. :)
i’m using my iphone for pics more and more now. i just wish there was an easy way to store instagram pics you don’t want to immediately publish, AND post via instagram, photos that you took on your regular iphone camera!!!
Super Fun Adventure! As always. :)
