Wreck-It Ralph Movie Review and Printables #WreckItRalph

Friday, November 2, 2012 by Lolli 1 Comment

My kids are at a strange in-between age where the little-kid animated movies that they loved when they were younger no longer hold quite as much interest for them…and the action-packed movies that I might enjoy are a little too much for them. Sometimes it’s hard to find a movie that the whole family can enjoy equally. Last week, I was able to take 4 of my kids to a pre-screening of Disney’s newest movie, Wreck-It Ralph, which comes out in theaters today (November 2, 2012).

Will my kids enjoy Wreck-It Ralph?

Is Wreck-It Ralph scary?

Wreck-It Ralph is a true family-friendly movie, with humor and action that both kids and adults will understand and appreciate. In a fun twist, the “bad guys” are actually the good guys in this film. One of my favorite take-aways from the movie was that there is always more to a person than initially meets the eye.

My favorite Wreck-It Ralph quote: “Ralph, you are BAD GUY, but this does not mean you are bad guy.”

My kids laughed throughout the movie, and never even asked for a snack (proof that they were totally entranced). The animation was top-notch, the story was strong, and the characters were enduring. Although Wreck-It Ralph is rated PG, I didn’t consider any of the action scary for kids. Definitely mom-approved.

What is Wreck-It Ralph about?

Wreck-It Ralph is the story of Ralph, the bad guy in the “classic” arcade game Fix-It Felix, Jr. Ralph does his job perfectly every day – as soon as a child puts a quarter in the arcade game, he dutifully wrecks the apartment building “inside” the game….but nobody appreciates Ralph. He feels lonely and unappreciated, so he leaves his game, traveling through Game Central Station, and finds himself on a quest for a medal in a few more modern games. Ralph’s encounters with the modern game players are hilarious…and full of adventure.

Will adults enjoy Wreck-It Ralph?

I would venture to say that moms and dads may appreciate this movie even more than their kids. Why? Well, if you’re like me, you spent some time in an arcade as a kid. These days, video games are in the house – on the tv game console, a hand-held game system, or on the phone. Wreck-It Ralph took me back to the days of my childhood, especially with the old-school style of Wreck-It Ralph. So many of the classic video arcade characters through the years made cameo appearances in the movie, and it kept me on my toes.

Wreck-It Ralph is definitely a movie the whole family will enjoy.

Are you looking forward to seeing Wreck-It Ralph in the theaters this weekend? Since my husband and oldest daughter didn’t get to join us at the screening, I can’t wait to see it again…with them this time!

Wreck-It Ralph Printables:

As a little bonus to get your kids even more excited about the movie, here are a few activity sheet printables to enjoy at home, including my kids’ favorite – Wreck-It Ralph coloring pages. CLick on each thumb-nail image below to print a full-sized pdf of the activity sheets.
