Thanksgiving Day is one of my favorite days of the year and it’s definitely worth a little extra notice, especially with Christmas sales and decorations popping up earlier and earlier every year. I was looking through my Thanksgiving recipes this morning and was reminded of a fun and simple Thanksgiving craft that is perfect for the kids to do on Thanksgiving while the adults are busy getting ready for the feast.
These are my kids back in November 2008, when we made the Thankful Turkeys for the first time. Please ignore Reese, who apparently wasn’t in the mood for pictures that day…she really didn’t mean to flip everyone off (feel free to have a laugh at her expense. I am).
How to make Thankful Turkeys:
Supplies:
- Colorful paper
- Scissors
- Pens or colored pencils
- Glue and/or tape
Instructions:
- Cut out several feathers in different colors (I’ve included a really simple template below, but you can make yours smaller if needed. We had all different sizes).
- Write one thing you’re thankful for on each turkey feather.
- Design a turkey (one large circle/oval for the body and one small circle for the head, plus a small orange triangle for a beak, 2 orange feet, and a squiggly red wattle). Be creative! A few of the kids added over-alls to their turkeys!
- Glue or tape feathers on the back of your turkey.
- Display your thankful turkeys for everyone to see. It’s fun for everyone to share what they’ve written on their feathers with the rest of the family, too!

These are really fun to make for Thanksgiving. I will have to make these and see how mine turn out. My niece and I would love to make this craft idea..
