I’m one of those women who would never DO anything with my hair if I had a choice. I feel like I’m constantly running around, from one task to the next important task, and the simple act of catching a shower every day can be a challenge. Getting showered, dressed, and made-up is success for me. All too often, I take time for myself so late in the day that I end up having to run out the door with wet hair. Thank goodness for natural waves!
The problem is that I know I don’t always look my best. I let my color grow out too long. I tend to only go to the salon when I am desperate. Why is it so hard to take time for myself?
Last week, I was preparing to attend the 2013 Shot@Life Champion Summit, I knew I would be surrounded by brilliant, well-put-together, well-dressed women. I realized that I needed a confidence boost. I bit the bullet and made an appointment at the Hair Cuttery.
When I got to the salon, I sat down with my stylist and discussed the vision I had for my hair. She gave me her opinions and recommendations based on my hair length and thickness, face shape, the state of my outgrown color, and my desired preparation time.
My hair issues: As I’ve gotten older, my mousey, no-color hair has lost even more color. My hair is wavy but not quite “curly” – curly enough, though, that wearing it straight isn’t always an easy option. I typically resort to chopping it to chin length when it starts to drive me crazy, but my goal this year is to let it grow below my shoulders.
My stylist set out a bunch of options for me, and based on my budget I chose a cut, style and full highlights, along with some new shampoo and conditioner to support my new do.
Having my hair done is almost as enjoyable to me as a full body massage…so the process of having color added, sitting under the drier, having my hair shampooed, and then getting my hair cut and styled was a joy. Especially since I was able to read a book the entire time.
When we were done, I raced off to an art show and awards night for Necco, my daughter #2, and had to hold myself back from running my fingers through my hair and stealing glances in every mirror I passed.
And you know what? I did feel more confident when I arrived at the Shot@Life Summit two days later.
How would you like a dose of that same confidence? Or maybe you just appreciate a relaxing hour or two at the salon, without kids. Whatever your motivation, I’m giving away one $50 Hair Cuttery gift certificate.

I need my hair cut! I’m tired of the baby grabbing it and also my hair pooling on his face when I hold him. I’ve been haunting groupon and the like for a good deal close by but this would be better. :)
