A Letter to My 10-Year-Old Daughter, on Her Birthday

Monday, March 11, 2013 by Lolli 1 Comment

To Reese, my 10-year-old daughter,

Today is the beginning of your first double-digit year. You’re 10! I remember when I found out I was pregnant with you, my 4th baby. I knew it was YOU from the beginning. I had been waiting for you, specifically YOU, for many years (since Dad started calling your older sisters by your name when they were born) and I felt like I knew you long before that March 11th when I met you in the hospital for the first time.

You were an incredible baby – Wonder baby – crawling at 4 months and walking along the furniture at 6 months, the size of most other newborns. I was impressed from the very beginning at how bright you were – both your mind and your spirit. You have been such a good kid, always one to follow the rules and do what is right…but very feisty at the same time. I know that that’s a very rare quality in a child and as your mom I really appreciate that!

You’ve got a nurturing personality, which has made you such a good sister and friend…and I know that someday you will be the best mom. I already know many families that are counting down the days until you are old enough to babysit their kids. They can see how responsible and nurturing you are already, just like I can!

Since you were a baby, you have been making people fall in love with you by just being yourself. People are drawn to you, and I love that you use that influence for good.

I am so excited for what lies ahead of you. Only one more year in elementary school and then you’ll be off to middle school, and I can tell that you are excited to grow up. If you continue to be the kind of girl you are now, determined and feisty, but always with a smile on your face and a desire to make other people happy, you will go so far.

I’m so proud of the person you have become and I am so happy to be your mom.

Love,

Mom, on your 10th birthday
