Friends Forever

Thursday, January 31, 2008 by Lolli Leave a Comment

Today is a special day–or at least it has been for me and Amy for the last 19 years. Amy and I met in junior high, not long after my family moved to a new area, and we hit it off instantly. It’s not every day that you find a best friend. Amy and I understood each other. We could communicate without words, finish each other’s sentences, and laugh at unspoken jokes. I wonder how many hours we spent talking on the phone?

Karen (another friend), me, and Amy on the beach in Oregon (I think we were 16-17 here)

On January 31, 1989, we sat together in my bedroom, and while listening to Bon Jovi’s Blood on Blood, we pricked our fingers and became blood sisters. Oh! The things that teenagers do! My family moved not long after that and we haven’t seen each other much since then. Now, we are each mothers (9 kids between the two of us!) living across the country from eachother. We might not live next door to each other and let our kids play in our connected backyard (Oh! The plans we made!) but anytime we talk on the phone, we’re back in junior high and that bond is just as strong.

Here’s a poem that I wrote for Amy when I was 14 (Remember I was 14! :p)

Friends Forever
That’s what we are
Even when we’re apart
We can’t be far
Cuz we’ve grown so close
In so little time
If you were my only friend
I know I’d be fine
Whenever I need you
You’re always there
You made me a different person
You always show how you care
Whenever you need me
I’ll be there, too
You can trust me with anything
And I know I can trust you
Don’t ever forget us
Cuz this is too real to lose
Even if I look hard
There’s no other like you
(That’s part of a scrapbook page of me and Amy and some of our Round Table Pizza friends. Yes, we loved long hair!)

I had to add this last pic just for Andrea, to remind her of how much older I am!! She’s the little kid on the left. :)

Amy, thanks for being such a great friend! I’m so excited that we have caught up with each other again through blogging!!
