I’m excited to share a new book – Gabby Duran and the Unsittables – that my 12-year-old daughter is currently devouring. Samples and prizing are provided by Disney Publishing but all thoughts are my own (and my daughter’s).
I was just having a discussion about books with Reese, my 12-year-old, a few weeks ago. She’s at a stage in her reading and interest level where she’s having a tough time finding books that really catch her attention. When Gabby Duran and the Unsittables came in the mail, I knew immediately that the subject matter was perfect for her. But I didn’t know just how much she would fall in love with the story.
About Gabby Duran and the Unsittables by Elise Allen and Daryle Conners
The Association Linking Intergalatics and Earthlings (hereby known as A.L.I.E.N.) has a new member. After months of investigation, Gabby Duran, Associate 4118-25125A, has proven herself to be a babysitter extraordinaire. Her celebrity clients fly her around the country to care for their rambunctious little humans. Our spy, Associate 4118-23432B, otherwise known as Edwina, believes Gabby can be trusted with the truth: aliens are living among humans on Earth. And here at A.L.I.E.N we believe that even extraterrestrials need a babysitter now and then. No one was up to the task…until now.
After accepting the top-secret position, Edwina has paired our new associate up with her first charge, a little girl from the planet Flarknartia. The timing for associate 4118-25125A is less than ideal. It’s a school day on Planet Earth, Gabby’s audition for the solo part in the band is tonight, and this tiny alien is a bit more than meets the eye.
Can Gabby Duran, Associate 4118-25125A, First Sitter to the Unsittables, keep her otherworldly charge safe in the unpredictable halls of middle-school and keep A.L.I.E.N hidden?
When I asked Reese to tell me about the book – how she was enjoying it and what it was like – she very enthusiastically explained what happened when Gabby was asked to babysit her very first alien kid. (translation: she would not stop talking!) Once Gabby was left alone with the little boy, he turned into a monster and tried to torment her.
I loved what Reese said (and what a GREAT lesson for her to be learning, too!): “Gabby could see through the monster and realized that no matter how scary he looked, he was just a kid like all the other kids she had babysat before.” In no time, she had “tamed” the monster boy and had the situation under control.
Does Gabby Duran and the Unsittables sound like a book that someone in your family would love?
