Horseback Riding – Jackson, Wyoming #PSF

Thursday, October 2, 2014 by Lolli 8 Comments

One of the highlights of my summer was horseback riding with my 15-year-old daughter in the mountains near Jackson, Wyoming. Necco was not interested in white water rafting with the rest of the family, and I was more than happy to trade in a wet suit for a pair of jeans.

There are a lot of horseback riding options in Jackson Hole, but we were absolutely thrilled with the A-OK Corral. We opted for the 2-hour ride:

Two-Hour Horse Creek Mesa Ride: Have a birds-eye view of the Horse Creek Drainage and the Snake River as it winds through the valley! Our two-hour ride is full of scenic views and breathtaking vistas. It starts in the flat, but quickly starts you up the mountain where you have a gentle climb through the trees. When it opens up on top you get all the great views of the surrounding area. You then loop around and return back to the corral.

Necco and I lucked out and had a trail guide all to ourselves. The weather was perfect, the horses – Matt and Dylan – were *mostly* cooperative, and the views were spectacular.

We can’t wait to do it again.

I have only ridden a horse once in my life and it was a rather frightening experience but I always wish I had learned to ride properly

Yep. All photos, except for the first two, were taken while I was atop the light-colored horse. Thank goodness for a light camera and a good neck strap! I deleted several accidental shots that were taken while we bumped along the mountain path. :)
