Kindergarten at the Pumpkin Patch

Tuesday, November 2, 2010 by Lolli 40 Comments

I’ve now been on five kindergarten field trips to the pumpkin patch. Five hay rides with shouting, giggling, wiggling five years olds. Five runs through corn mazes. Five searches for the perfect pumpkin times 20.

There’s nothing like the annual Fall Farm Field Trip. But this was my last. My last kindergartener.

Of all the farms I’ve been to, both with our family and with the school, this was the best by far. Better fields of pumpkins, better animals, better farmer explanations to the kids. Not to mention the free pick-your-own popcorn field. The best part of the field trip, though, was the hay ride. It started out like any other hay ride through fields of wheat and corn, but ended up going straight through a river (twice!) with lots of bumps and squeels.

It was an amazing day. I think I might have to volunteer again next year, even though I won’t be a parent of a kindergartener.

Beautiful photos! I was bummed I didn’t get to chaperone my Kindergartener’s trip to the Corn Maze in the Plains last month. Sent in my request too late. Sigh…

I had never heard of it, either. The farm has a whole field of popcorn on the stalks. You just pick an ear of corn, put it in a paper bag in the microwave, and wala! Perfect, fresh popcorn. I wish we had had more than one ear.

Wait, pick your OWN popcorn?! Why was I not informed about this?! :)

The fact that it was a total surprise added to the excitement. None of us expected that!

The animals were so much fun! Perfect height for the kids, and very kid-friendly too. Only one boy got a nipped finger.

None of us knew the hay ride was going to go right through a river, so we were totally shocked (added to the fun of it!).

They really do. It is kind of sad. Exciting, happy, and sad, all mixed in together.

Thank you, too! I have to agree with you completely on that. For the first week, it was fun, but then asking people to vote all the time got very tiring. Despite the fact that I was forever stuck in 5th place, I was overwhelmed by the support and love I felt from my readers. So it was all good ($5000 would have been nice, though!).

Thanks! It was one of those perfect days with a dark blue sky that made everything vibrant. I want to go back!

I DID love it! And guess what?? I didn’t take the rest of my kids to the pumpkin patch this year, either. I just couldnt afford it. I felt so guilty, until I realized that I was the only one who cared. Because, really, it’s al about the pictures…

Thank you for your kind words by the way for the Big Hit contest. It was a tough one and I am so glad to have been selected as one of the lucky contestants. All the recipes were so yummy sounding and I wish we all could have won! I will admit though to be glad I no longer have to beg for votes! Thanks again!
