Need a Last Minute Holiday Gift? Try Yoursphere!

Monday, December 14, 2009 by Lolli 5 Comments

Those of you who, like me, have older children know what a challenge it is to find them worthwhile and affordable gifts for birthdays and holidays. KitKat’s 13th birthday is next week, the day before Christmas, so I have to prepare doubly for her. On her list this year? A cell phone, an iTouch, a digital camera with video……I’m sure it doesn’t surprise any of you that I cannot afford to get her all of those high-end gifts at once.

Luckily, I had the opportunity to review a social networking site for kids these last few weeks, and I am happy to say I found a winner: Yoursphere.com! KitKat and Necco (age 10 1/2) LOVE Yoursphere, and are begging me to let them get on to chat online with each other (silly, I know–but they love it!), meet new friends their age, and play games every day. I honestly feel so much better about Yoursphere than I do about having my kids on Facebook…..I’m just not quite ready for that.

yoursphere

www.Yoursphere.com is the social network for kids and teens that puts safety first and provides a positive and age appropriate alternative to Facebook, Myspace, and other sites created by adults for adults. Yoursphere was founded by a mom of 5 (I like her already!) who was concerned about her children’s safety on the internet. Yoursphere is a social network for kids and teens, which unlike other sites offers:

• Identity verification, predator check, and requires verifiable parental consent
• Limits participation to kids and teens through age 18. (Kids can be members until they turn 19.)
• All content is created by kids and teens for kids and teens. No worries about adult content.
• There are no ads on Yoursphere. The membership fee — a dime a day – is used to support Yoursphere’s safety measures and to provide activities, prizes, and rewards for each and every member.
• Offers scholarships and supports youth-selected philanthropies: 3% of each membership fee is pooled into a scholarship program.

Would you like to try Yoursphere out for your kids? Or do you have a pre-teen that you need to find a quick gift for? Yoursphere memberships are a quick and cost-effective gift for kids! Plus, I am offering $0.50 off the monthly membership and $5.00 off the annual membership, using the code: YS17-JBFR. Bonus!

**And for one lucky reader, I have a full year’s membership to give away this week! All you have to do is leave me a comment below to enter.**

For extra entries, you can help me build my “new” blog back up by subscribing to my feed, tweeting about this giveaway, or adding me to your blog roll (or changing your old 1momof5.blogspot link to my new foodfunfamily.com url).

This giveaway will end on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at midnight EST, and winner will be notified and emailed their unique code on Monday, December 21 (I want to make sure I get things all finished up before I leave town next week!) and just in time for Christmas!

Disclosure: I was given a Yoursphere.com 1-year membership for two of my children as part of this review.

Good to know for when the kids get a bit older. The double birthday thing is so tough. My hubs is the 18th. I’ve got a November and a January and they seem to escape unscathed. Good luck.

Thanks for stopping my blog. I’m digging yours too!
