I love salads for lunch. In fact, it I wasn’t so lazy strapped for time in the middle of the day, running here and there, I’d eat a salad every day. So no one had to twist my arm to get me to try Wendy’s newest salads. The only problem I had was deciding which one to try. With names like Spicy Chicken Caesar, Apple Pecan Chicken, Baja, and BLT Cobb Salad, it was a tough choice. I decided to go for the Baja salad (the avocados and gaucamole ranch totally got me!). It was excellent. It was filling. And miracle upon miracles….my teenage daughter was intrigued enough to try a bite. And she loved it! This is a kid who has never eaten salads. But she liked this salad enough to have seconds. She even mentioned that it reminded her of her favorite chicken tortilla soup.
In other words, we were completely sold on these new salads.
Did you know that Wendy’s restaurants introduced the salad bar over 30 years ago? That was followed with the introduction of Garden Sensations in 2002, and finally with Wendy’s newest salad line this year.
I love how Wendy’s came up with their newest salads….They shared ideas with consumers and incorporated their feedback. In other words, they’re listening!
–The people asked for texture—-> Wendy’s added tortilla strips and croutons
–The people wanted the lettuce to be dry—-> Salad spinners in every store
–People said they liked smaller pieces—-> Wendy’s cut chicken, pecan, and other salad components into bite-size pieces
–The people wanted flavor excitement—-> Seasoned pecans with sea salt and cayenne pepper
Each salad provides 1-2 cups of fruits and vegetables per serving (USDA recommends 2 ½ per day) They are loaded! These are not lettuce-heavy salads here.
–Dark leafy greens
–Chicken or beans
I’ve got 3 (three) $10 giftcards to Wendy’s!
