Off to the Land of Chocolate

Tuesday, June 22, 2010 by Lolli 22 Comments

I’ve spent the morning packing bags and packing the van. I’m exhausted already and we haven’t even pulled out of our court. We’re off on our annual trip to Hershey Park to meet up with my mom, sister, brother in law, and niece. Since it has been an entire year since our last trip, I thought I’d repost these tips from last year. I can always use a good reminder, especially when the forecast is calling for mid 90s and high humidity. I think I might be hanging out in the bathrooms on purpose again….

1 – The restrooms at Hershey Park are nicely air conditioned.

Here’s my experience from last year: We had to make our first potty stop at Hershey Park before we got on our first ride. AJ’s bladder was particularly small last Monday when we were at the amusement park. When I walked into that first restroom, I over heard another mom say, “Wow! It feels great in here. I might have to spend all day in the bathroom.”

I had no idea at the time that she was speaking my fate. Between the 6 kids and 3 adults, we were running to the restroom a few times an hour.

At least they were cool.

2- Buy three of those refillable souvenier cups as soon as you walk through the front gate.

Sadly, someone stole my sister’s half-full cup right out of her stroller last week. Even so, those big cups are a must. Granted, we’ll all end up with the same cold at the end of the week, but I still think it’s worth the risk.

3 – Don’t expect to ride the big kid rides.

I’m really not much of a roller coaster fan, anyway. My only request was to take a spin on the log ride. After that, I was good to hang out at the kiddie rides. Standing at the exit might not be quite as exciting as getting on the rides myself, but there’s still magic in watching the thrill and joy on kids’ faces.

4 – Sleeping in a double bed with a restless 8 year old does not make for a sound night sleep.

This time, I get to share a bed with my mom.

5 – Getting back into a routine after just a week away is tough. My house is a mess, but the vacation did me good.

I expect no less this year.

How funny! At least it’s just as hot or hotter where we’re coming from, so we’re used to the heat, but it sure does wear everyone out faster!

It really is a fun place for kids and adults. I’m just hoping that the weather cools a little for our day at the park.

Typically, we spend two nights, but now that my sister lives here, we’re making a week of it. Only one day at the park, though. :)

Hey! We’re going to go to Chocolate World on Sunday afternoon. We’re not doing the park this year, but Hershey is half way between my grandmother’s house and here, so we thought that we’d make a pit stop at Chocolate World for some ice cream and a little Hershey’s goodness.
