Old Cartoons {Guest Post}

Thursday, May 13, 2010 by Lolli 4 Comments

My friend, Safire, is back with another guest post this afternoon. And guess what? She has tons of giveaways happening on her brand new blog, Water Falling Up, this week, including a giveaway coming later today for an Ergo baby carrier. I almost wish I had another baby just so that I could win it. I’ve seen Safire’s Ergo, and I have major baby-wearing envy!

Lately, thanks to the Wii streaming disk from Netflix, my daughter and I have been watching a lot of old cartoons. You know, cartoons from the ’80s when I was young and very much into cartoons. And it’s not the really great cartoons like My Little Pony or Strawberry Shortcake, which were my favorite. Oh, no. It’s things like Fraggle Rock, Voltron, and Super Mario Brothers.

fraggle rock

Each of these shows have a little opening musical number that takes me back to my childhood. I have vivid memories of trying to “Do the Mario” with my brother in our living room. And “Voltron! Defender of the Universe!” is something he and I used to yell playing in our basement. This was even before I remember knowing what universe meant. I remember being annoyed when I was little that I had to be the blue lion, when really, that was the princess’ lion. I wanted to be the green lion.

I know all the words to the Fraggle Rock song. Actually, I know all the words to the Duck Tails theme song too. And Flipper’s theme song. I think it would have been better to not know these things and be able to memorize more useful things. Maybe they will become more useful in the future to me! Either that or I’m going to be the crazy old lady in the nursing home singing, “Life is like a hurricane, here – in, Duck – burg!”

What were some of your favorite cartoons from the past?

    My absolute favorite old cartoon was the old black and white Caspar cartoons. Woody Woodpecker and the Road Runner both come a close second.

    I’d also like to put out an offer here btw. You said there’s a lot of giveaways going on and I’ve recently started a Linky list for giveaways on my blog. Anyone is more than welcome to add theirs to the list in an effort to get more exposure for your Giveaways.

    You just named some of my favorite 80’s kid shows ever! I thought I was the only one that liked Ducktales’ theme song… :)

    Don’t forget about Disney’s Gummi Bears Saturday morning cartoon. “Gummi Bears… bouncing here and there and everywhere!”

    Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears, Fraggle Rock, My Little Ponies, and the Smurfs are some of my favorites. I wish they hadn’t made them more modern because I like the originals.
