Riding a Two-Wheeler

Thursday, April 15, 2010 by Lolli 13 Comments

Have you ever kept a child home from school because they had a fever at night…but during the day, the child was running around just fine?

That was Reese all last week. Her Spring Break extended through another full week because she was so sick (NOT!).

She was so sick that by the end of the school day, when the big kids came home, I practically shoved her out the door to go play outside and get some fresh air (she did not complain or fight that request from Mommy!). Keeping her home and away from friends was my own mini torture.

She was so sick that she figured out how to ride a two-wheeler. Skipped the whole training wheel part. There’s nothing like having big siblings and neighbors.

And when she asked me to come watch her new-found skill, not only did she raise her hand to say, “Look what I can do, Mom!” but I realized she had a lollipop in her mouth, which I promptly took out.

The little daredevil.

Riding a two-wheeler

The following should be a video, but apparently the play button doesn’t appear in some browsers. Hmm. If you click on the image, it should take you to my Facebook page where you can watch it.

Since last Friday, she has gotten a gash in her shin that got her so worked up that she threw up all over my family room carpet, she has scraped up her hands from catching herself on falls, and she has gotten a 4 inch rug burn on her chest.

All in the name of fun.

And she keeps going out. Sneaking out, even. She’s hooked on riding that two-wheeler, no matter what the cost.

I’m just glad that she’s already lost her teeth, or else I’d be afraid that she’d knock them out.

(PS–she is improving daily and is no longer crashing as much as she did that first day)

Woohoo! My kids were SO excited and proud of themselves when they could ride 2 wheelers. (even if they didn’t take a sick day to do it!)

I wish that I could get Hayden to ride his bike. He is just so scared of it or maybe its the hills around our house. Who knows?

I’m so impressed! I hated learning how to ride a two wheeler. I still remember getting grounded from my bike because I refused to try. Best punishment eva!

Good for her, I think?? Good for picking up a new skill so easily, but not so good about the crashing and puking.

Both of my older ones were 5 but the youngest starting riding without training wheels last summer (she was 4). We were shocked to say the least.

Ya know what? My kids always get better ON THE WAY to the Doctor’s office. LOL!

Love the video! Sounds like my kids…they throw up or have a fever or whatever in the middle of the night, and then are totally fine when I keep them home. But if I risk sending them to school? I get a call to come get them because they’re sick. I guess homes have magical healing powers.

Right now (and I am sure this will change soon), I threaten to keep Gracie home when she’s crabby or acting tired in the morning. She FREAKS at the idea of staying home.

I get why Reese is so enthusiastic about riding a bike…it’s such a great, free feeling when you finally learn (and yes, I remember it…VIVIDLY)!!

I was trying to figure that out recently when my daughter was TOO sick to go to school and then when she stayed home was wandering around the house & doing things all through the day.

So from now on {and she’s a teenager}, I told her that if she is staying home sick, she is staying in her bedroom without her laptop, Ipod, etc.

We have to stay one step ahead. If that’s possible. hehe
