Santa Pictures

Tuesday, December 7, 2010 by Lolli 16 Comments

Ask any child about Santa and their eyes widen and sparkle and a smile erupts on their face. He brings presents! He has reindeer! He flies in a sleigh!

But ask that same child to sit on Santa’s lap (at least if they live in my house) and suddenly Santa is a scary, intimidating character. On Saturday night, I was the official Santa picture photographer at our church Christmas party, and only 2 of my 5 kids took advantage of sitting on Santa’s lap (even with the promise of a gift bag with toys and cookie). AJ sat at my feet for 45 minutes watching all of the other kids file through the line until he finally worked up the nerve to sit with Santa. We watched some children march right up to Santa and happily tell him their Christmas wishes. Other kids clung to their moms and dads and screamed when determined parents set them down for just one picture.

It was a very entertaining night!

After Santa pictures and an abundant dinner, we had a short program with music and stories. While the kids sang, AJ and his two friends entertained us with their silliness.

It is funny how they get all excited and then when they see him, and he is BIG, it usually does scare them or they become shy… I think I maybe have one photo of each boy w/Santa that they are not crying. Looks like your event turned out fun!

My oldest daughter used to have trouble falling asleep on Christmas eve because she was so afraid Santa might come into her room. It is so true that Santa can be scary. I loved your set of pictures, they really capture the warmth and joy of the holiday season.

Isn’t it funny how kids love Santa and yet want nothing to do with him in person? Love your photos!
