The BEST Way to See Moana in Theaters #Moana

Saturday, November 26, 2016 by Lolli 1 Comment

This morning, I took my family to see Disney’s latest masterpiece, Moana, at Dolby Cinema at AMC. Three of my kids and I had already seen the movie at a pre-release date screening, but seeing it in a special Dolby Cinema theater. This post is sponsored by Dolby Cinema at AMC, but all thoughts are my own. Amazon affiliate links may be used within this post. #DolbyCinema #ShareAMC #Moana

About Moana

Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one knows why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli‘i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder.

Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity. Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Princess & the Frog”) and produced by Osnat Shurer (“Lifted,” “One Man Band”).

Moana is in theaters now!

Our Reaction to Dolby Cinema at AMC

We were stunned when we walked into the theater. WOW! Each seat is a plush recliner with electric controls so that you can find your perfect recline. Every two seats are connected so that you can (if you desire) move the arm rest up and snuggle together, just like your most comfy couch at home.

The most exciting thing that I noticed even before the movie started was that once we sat down in our personal recliners, the rest of the theater literally disappeared from view. All we could see was the screen. It was an incredible view! I practically forgot that I was in a theater. It felt like my own personal big-screen viewing of Moana.

After the movie started, a few other things stood out to me. First, the quality of the surround sound was better than any other theater I’ve ever been in. And second, the seats vibrated and pulsated with the action of the movie, making it feel like we were literally part of the movie. And third, the vibrant colors on the screen (including true blacks and whites) were noticeably better than I’m used to. Moana is both a vibrantly colorful movie as well as full of gorgeous audio (have you listened to the soundtrack yet?? We’ve already bought it and I’m listening to the songs as I write this post!).

I really can’t imagine a better way to experience a movie. As the final credits rolled, my husband commented, “Imagine seeing an Avengers movie in here!” – I think we just set a date for the next Avengers!

Inner Workings

inner workings

Inspired by the transparent human anatomy pages in his childhood encyclopedia set, Leo Matsuda, director of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ new short “Inner Workings,” showcases the internal struggle between one’s pragmatic, logical self and the free-spirited, adventurous self. Created in a unique, fast-paced style that blends CG and traditional hand-drawn animation, “Inner Workings” opens on Nov. 23, 2016, in front of Disney’s “Moana.” ©2016 Disney. All Rights Reserved.

Before the movie, you’ve LOVE the newest Disney short, Inner Workings. I saw Inner Workings at one of the Disney trips I’ve attended during the last year, so I was actually surprised when it came on before the movie and nobody else in my family was familiar with it. Of course, that just gave me more opportunity to pay attention to their reactions while they watched the short! Not surprisingly….they all loved it!

ABOUT “Inner Workings” – a new short from first-time director Leo Matsuda (story artist for “Big Hero 6,” “WreckIt Ralph”), “Inner Workings” is the story of the internal struggle between a man’s pragmatic, logical side and his free-spirited, adventurous half. Created by a small team at Walt Disney Animation Studios in a unique, fast-paced style that blends CG and traditional hand-drawn animation, the short explores the importance of finding balance in daily life. “Inner Workings” is now playing before Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Moana.”

Thanks for sharing the difference! I’m going to see if we have a Dolby equipped theater nearby. My girls are so excited to see Moana!
