The other day, I posted about the trip that my kids and I took to the National Harbor to see ICE at the Gaylord National Resort. Since there were so many pictures, I didn’t do the beach shots justice.
(When I say beach shots, remember that it was around 30 degrees outside)
Apparently, this enormous sculpture used to be located in DC, but was relocated to the National Harbor area just outside DC. This was the first time any of us had seen the man in the sand.
(I’m sure he has a real name, but my kids like to call him Poseidon. Blame it on Percy Jackson)
What’s not to love about a man whose mouth is big enough to crawl in, and whose nose you can pick with your arm?
Now it’s time for you to share! Grab a button and link up. And in case you missed the news about Cecily’s blog, check my post explaining what’s going on with My Chaos, My Bliss. I’ll keep you updated when she’s back up and running. We miss you, Cecily!

That is a crazy…. cool…. sculpture. Great photos.
Candice @ Fashionably Organized says
OMG that looks so freaking cool. My kids would love that. Not the cold, but the statue.
Lolli says
Thanks! I was glad that my friend knew where it was and took us to see it. It was definitely worth it!
Lolli says
I’d wait for Spring for sure…Unless you wanted to wait til next Winter and come for the ICE show down the street (THAT is worth the trip for sure!)
Lolli says
Well, you know–If you decide to come to DC someday, I’ll play tour guide and show you the sculpture! :)
Lolli says
Thanks! It was fun, but we had to be quick. Of course, right in the middle my 5 year old announced he had to go to the bathroom so we ran off!
Lolli says
I am so glad we discovered it! Granted it’s an hour + away, so we won’t be stopping by all the time or anything…
Lolli says
Yep, it’s buried on purpose. In fact, I think it’s just a collection of separate body parts that they’ve stuck in the sand.
Lolli says
Come down and I’ll take your family pictures on the hand. ;) It’s metal.
Lolli says
I think I’d like to go when it’s closer to 80. It would be even more fun. :)

I hope Cecily sees this message (and the other comments) and knows how much we miss her. :) Thanks for stopping by!

Apparently MY kids can’t refrain form picking a big nose, that’s for sure!
I will tell Cecily. I miss her, too!!

That is absolutely amazing! I love the name Poseidon. It’s PERFECT!

Gorgeous pictures. Is it worth the trip? Is it going to be there for a while, or is this just an exhibition — in otherwords, do I have to travel down there in winter, or can it wait til spring? Cause that may be a playground worth the 2.5 hour drive.

OMG! I was not aware about that statue! Did they buried it on purpose? It really really fits the ocean. It must be Poseidon I think. There is always to learn every day.
debi9kids says
Oh how very cool! I am positive my kids would FLIP if they saw that, esp my boys.
So, what is he made out of? Stone? Metal?
Alisha says
Wow, looks like such a blast, even at 30 degrees. Very cool!

Now, THAT is pretty cool! My boys would love it! And Poseidon seems the perfect name.
And Cecily, I’m so sorry about the loss of all your blog work! You are an incredibly talented Photographer, not to mention gifted writer, and for someone to do something like this–it’s just unthinkable. It makes me heart-sick for you.

My boys would think that Man in the Sand is so cool! And who could refrain from sticking your arm in his nose anyway?!
Tell Cecily that I check her blog regularly to see if she is up and running yet. I would email her, but I am not sure if her email has been hacked too! I miss her photos, I miss her blog, and I miss having her come visit me. Hope to see you soon Cecily!
