The Man in the Sand – PSF

Thursday, January 13, 2011 by Lolli 28 Comments

The other day, I posted about the trip that my kids and I took to the National Harbor to see ICE at the Gaylord National Resort. Since there were so many pictures, I didn’t do the beach shots justice.

(When I say beach shots, remember that it was around 30 degrees outside)

Apparently, this enormous sculpture used to be located in DC, but was relocated to the National Harbor area just outside DC. This was the first time any of us had seen the man in the sand.

(I’m sure he has a real name, but my kids like to call him Poseidon. Blame it on Percy Jackson)

What’s not to love about a man whose mouth is big enough to crawl in, and whose nose you can pick with your arm?

Thanks! It was fun, but we had to be quick. Of course, right in the middle my 5 year old announced he had to go to the bathroom so we ran off!

I am so glad we discovered it! Granted it’s an hour + away, so we won’t be stopping by all the time or anything…

Yep, it’s buried on purpose. In fact, I think it’s just a collection of separate body parts that they’ve stuck in the sand.

Gorgeous pictures. Is it worth the trip? Is it going to be there for a while, or is this just an exhibition — in otherwords, do I have to travel down there in winter, or can it wait til spring? Cause that may be a playground worth the 2.5 hour drive.

OMG! I was not aware about that statue! Did they buried it on purpose? It really really fits the ocean. It must be Poseidon I think. There is always to learn every day.

My boys would think that Man in the Sand is so cool! And who could refrain from sticking your arm in his nose anyway?!

Tell Cecily that I check her blog regularly to see if she is up and running yet. I would email her, but I am not sure if her email has been hacked too! I miss her photos, I miss her blog, and I miss having her come visit me. Hope to see you soon Cecily!
