Tips for Finding Time Together as a Family

Wednesday, January 13, 2016 by Lolli Leave a Comment

It seems as though life can get busy and hectic in no time at all. However, it’s so important to find time together as a family. Your kids are only small once, so finding time together is everything. Check out these tips for maximizing your family time together….because spending time together goes a long way in developing strong family bonds!

Tips for Finding Time Together as a Family

5 tips for finding time together as a family - because TIME makes all the difference in growing strong family relationships! via Food Fun Family

Carve Out Time

Sometimes the only way you will find time together as a family is to carve out time together. Put it on the calendar or make it the same time each week. Make it a point that everyone has to be there, no exceptions. You don’t have to be mean about it, just make sure everyone knows how important this time is together. For example- Every Sunday night is pizza night!

Reduce Activities

Things can get busy around here, so I can appreciate the fact that family time is hard to come by. I’ve made it a point this year to reduce activities that put family last. If you’re spending every waking moment running errands, attending events, or doing something else, you won’t have time with your family. By reducing the amount of activities your family is in, you’ll have more time together as a family.

Complete Activities Together

Yes, this is one of my favorite ways to find time together as a family. When we can, we all get together and do stuff. Sometimes that means grocery shopping together and other times it means bowling together. We do as much as we can around here because it means we get to spend family time together. Family time cannot be taken for granted, which is a lesson we’ve learned over and over again.

You Don’t Have to Spend Money

Some families are under the assumption that if they’re not spending money on their kids, then they are not spending real quality time together. This is so far from the true, you do not have to spend money on your kids in order to spend quality time with them. Think of things like movie nights, game nights, random acts of kindness nights, and even homemade pizza nights. Kids are always going to remember what you did with them, not how much money you spent on them.

Don’t Make Excuses

It’s so easy to say “I’ll play with my kids tomorrow.” Well, no one is guaranteed a tomorrow, so in reality you need to make the most of your today. You’ll find more time together as a family if you stop making excuses and start finding time.

Around here, family time is important and I’ll bet it is equally important at your house. This year, let’s stop making excuses and start making memories. Let’s put down the smartphones, electronics, and anything else that’s distracting us and focus on our families because at the end of the day, family is what really matters.
