Why Am I Sitting Here?

Tuesday, July 27, 2010 by Lolli 9 Comments

Last week, it was an earthquake. This week it was a tornado. I’m a little tired of freaks of nature distrupting my routine.

Today, I posted these tweets on my twitter account:

Argh! My internet is out, my dishwasher is broken, and my friend is here cuz her power is still out. Dark ages or what?

I must be addicted to the Internet. Why else would I be hanging out at McDonalds for the free wifi?? Parfait was good, though…

Our power was only knocked out for an hour and a half after the freak tornado rolled through on Sunday afternoon, but my friend Safire and her family have currently been without power for nearly 48 hours. They’re hanging out with us to stay cool (and stay sane) and their meats and cheeses have found a temporary home in our freezer.

Today I woke up to a wide spread Verizon internet outage, and I felt crippled. So here I sit in McDonalds, snacking on a fruit and yogurt parfait and a small french fry, while I enjoy a few minutes of free wifi before picking the kids up from camp down the street.

And now….The power at McDonalds just went out. The crowds of people who are hanging out with me to stay cool and eat something other than peanut butter and honey sandwiches screamed. The teenagers ran outside. And apparently McDonalds no longer has internet, either. So I’ve moved across the street to Starbucks (why didn’t I come here in the first place?)

Remind me that I’m still living in the civilized world (?). Someone bring me chocolate. I need rescue!

PS–Tonight (and tomorrow) I am guest posting over at Seven Clown Circus. Angie has asked me to host WordFul Wednesday this week! You’ve got to go check out the pictures I took of Reese before the tornado hit our town on Sunday!

I knew it was a doozy of a storm the other day, but I had no idea there was a tornado in there too. We were in the middle of church and had the power flicker off for about 30 seconds–just long enough to set the kids screaming.

We’ve had so many freak storms here too. My mom was without power for almost 24 hours last week, she camped out at my house all day for the free power and internet. There are more storms headed our way tonight too.

I love your combo of the parfait and the fries. Sweet and salty, perfect.

No verizon and No WiFi? I think I would go through withdrawal (the WiFI) – and my teens would get the shakes without their phone! I’m glad you found the StarBucks!

Yeah, I think I’m a bit of a junkie myself… thinking about a trip “unplugged” for over a week. However did we survive back in the day? Can’t wait to see your pic for WW.

That’s crazy!! But should I be surprized? No. When we were having our crazy winter, the West Coast had a nice, mild winter. :)

And, your natural disasters/ weather stuff is crazy. Glad you are all safe!

I keep thinking it’s like April here. Seriously the coldest July on record here.
