Avengers Birthday Theme + Blue Bunny Ice Cream = Perfect Party (Giveaway!)

Tuesday, June 5, 2012 by Lolli 53 Comments

Marvel’s The Avengers is a hot ticket in our house these days. We’ve got Iron Man and Captain America action figures and a life-sized Captain America shield among other toys, and we’re huge fans of all Avengers-related the movies.

As the last of five kids, I must admit that AJ has not had many birthday parties. I am not much a party-thrower, and I guess I lost most of my oomph for birthday parties a while ago. I tend to find an excuse…

Well, this year there was no excuse, and even I found myself getting excited about the prospects of throwing an Avengers birthday theme party for my youngest son.

Avengers theme birthday party ideas

Although not everything went exactly as planned (I joked that Thor tried to crash AJ’s party….we had a tornado warning all afternoon and evening!) everyone ended up having a blast. And, as always, ice cream saved the day. But more on that later…

Our Avengers birthday party activities ROCKED

Ok, I must warn you that I am not the kind of mom who decorates the house in theme and makes amazing crafts and goodies to take home. I am all about utilizing the resources that are out there. I ended up being very happy with how everything turned out.

Pin the shield on Captain America

I was able to find a pre-made Pin game at Party City, but I was prepared to just head to Walmart to buy an Avengers poster if that hadn’t worked out. I taped the poster on my wall, kid-level, covered each of the kid’s eyes with a nice, big bandana, and gave them a spin. The kids loved this variation of the Pin The Tail on The Donkey game – it was definitely entertaining for everyone!

Thor-style Pinata Bash

My biggest regret was not finding a sufficient Mjölnir-like hammer to beat the pinata with, but I figured that the kids’ safety was more important than having a cool Thor-inspired weapon. I found an airplane pinata (again, I had to make do) and filled it with candy. The kids had a blast beating it to shreds. I think my lawn took quite a beating as well after the pinata fell down…

Captain America frisbee throw

I lucked out and found Avengers frisbees at the Dollar Store. I was originally planning on buying white frisbees that each of the kids could decorate, but the kids were so enamored with the Avengers characters on their frisbees that I couldn’t resist. Our frisbee throw was cut very short by Thor’s thunder and lightning (the real kind), but I had planned on seeing which frisbee could fly the farthest.

Design-your-own Avengers banner

With construction paper, neon shapes, markers, glue, and foam letters, each of the kids was given the task to create his own super hero banner. I let the kids have free-reign to create anything they felt like. I loved what they came up with!

Decorate an Avengers cupcake

Because we had fancy ice cream cones from Blue Bunny, I thought that cupcakes would be ideal, and what better use of time than to let the kids decorate their own cupcakes?! I made the cupcakes and the vanilla frosting base. I bought blue, green, and gold frosting tubes and red sprinkles to use to decorate the cupcakes. They came up with some pretty cool creations!
