Burn, Baby, Burn!

Tuesday, January 19, 2010 by Lolli 20 Comments

I earned the coolest mom award this afternoon.

KitKat and her friend were over here after school and started joking about wanting to burn their posters from Spanish class (sadly, they really don’t like the teacher, and he has just about ruined the language for my daughter). I heard them scheming in the kitchen, and was prepared when they came up to ask me if they could burn the poster.

“Sure,” I said. “Just get a big can, tear the poster into small pieces, and light them inside the can.”

KitKat started laughing.

Her friend’s jaw dropped open.

They couldn’t believe I had said yes.

Out in the backyard, they had the time of their lives. (And, yes, please disregard the mess on my patio) They even roasted marshmallows over the flame.

Am I crazy? Or am I just a cool mom?

In other news, some of you on twitter read about my freak burn accident this weekend. If you didn’t hear the story as it played out, here’s a quick recap.

Again, being the cool mom that I am, I said yes when Necco asked to have a friend sleep over on Friday night. Before they settled down to watch a movie in the basement, I offered to cook up some homemade popcorn for the girls. I love popping popcorn on the stove. Fresh butter, salt. Mmm!

I popped a batch and headed across the kitchen to pour the popcorn into a large bowl. After pouring the popped kernels out, I set the pan aside. Next thing I knew, I heard a POP and my chest was burning. A random kernel decided it would pop right out of the pan and DOWN MY SHIRT. I had to reach down my shirt to pull out the still-burning, un-popped kernel. I ended up with three full blisters on my chest.

Talk about a freak accident.

I never knew popcorn could be quite so dangerous.

Wow you are a cool mom! That is better than having to keep the poster though. Then you don't have to agonize over throwing it away a few years from now haha!!

Hope you're better today. Try aloe vera gel –that's my MIL's cure-all for everything! And guess what? It does work –especially on burns. :)

You definitely win the cool mom award in my book. On the freak burn accident note, I was one time burned all over my neck and chest by an exploding lime.
