Fall Family Traditions – #TogetherCounts

Wednesday, October 10, 2012 by Lolli 6 Comments

Every season has its fair share of family traditions, but Fall has some of my favorites. The Fall weather (at least here in Maryland) inspires us to finally get out of the house and be active again. During the Spring, we’re sneezing; in the Summer, we are too hot; and the Winter, as fun as it is to play in the snow, we tend to opt for warmer indoor temperatures. Fall is perfect – not too hot, not too cold, and not too hard on the allergies.

Fall Family Traditions….

If the weather weren’t reason enough to love the Fall, the seasonal foods would certainly be motivation enough to fall in love with Fall. Pumpkin desserts, baked goodies, BREAD, soups….After a Summer of avoiding the heat of the kitchen, the Fall simply draws me IN to the kitchen and I start cooking again.

Some of our favorite Fall traditions include enjoying the warm colors of the pumpkin patch, finding the perfect pumpkin, and then coming home to carve them (truthfully, 95% of the reason I take my family to the pumpkin patch is so that I can take pictures).

One of my favorite Fall photo opps is the leaf piles. As gross as I know those piles of leaves are….I love the way the kids look when they are jumping into them. I didn’t have piles of brown, red, orange, and yellow leaves like this when I was a kid growing up in California – maybe that’s why I love seeing my own kids enjoying them so much.

Fall is a time of year when we all hop in the car on a Sunday afternoon just to take a drive together. The view of the Fall foliage out the van window is both awe-inspiring and calming. I just can’t believe the view could be so beautiful.

Fall is the season for family pictures, for Halloween costumes, for Trunk-or-treating in the church parking lot. Fall is a time to be together. To enjoy each other.

I didn’t take my son to the pumpkin patch last year for his first Halloween because he was sick. But I hope to take him this year!
