Next Sunday, I will travel down the road to Washington D.C. to join one of the most inspiring groups of people ever – at the Shot@Life Champions Summit. I am proud to have been chosen to stand among this group and to share this message, meet with Congress and LEARN.
WHAT IS SHOT@LIFE?
Shot@Life educates, connects and empowers Americans to champion vaccines as one of the most cost-effective ways to save the lives of children in developing countries. A national call to action for this global cause, the campaign rallies the American public, members of Congress, and civil society partners around the fact that together, we can save a child’s life every 20 seconds by expanding access to vaccines. By encouraging Americans to learn about, advocate for, and donate vaccines, the United Nations Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign will decrease vaccine-preventable childhood deaths and give children a shot at a healthy life. EVERY CHILD DESERVES A SHOT AT A HEALTHY LIFE, NO MATTER WHERE THEY LIVE
A few months ago, I attended a local Shot at Life event, hosted by a few of the bloggers that I respect most who just happened to be Shot@Life Champions. Not only did I come home with a desire to DO SOMETHING TO HELP, but I came home with a bright green shirt.
Whenever I wear this shirt, I inevitably get a comment. On the front of the shirt, in bold white letters is the phrase “Shot at sibling rivalry.” Sibling rivalry?, they ask. Yes, children deserve a shot at everything life has to offer–including the often troublesome but rewarding sibling rivalry.
Seventy percent of all unvaccinated children live in just 10 developing countries. These are children who may live on the other side of the world, but who are just like our own children. By giving these children – all children – access to vaccines, we can help give them the shot at life that each of them deserves.
Invest in a healthier world. Immunize a child.
