The Recipe I Search For Every Holiday – GMYBS-PSF

Thursday, December 2, 2010 by Lolli 13 Comments

It never fails. Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter rolls around and I go on a frantic, tear-the-house apart search for my favorite cheese log recipe. I’ve been making this cheese log since a friend shared the recipe with me years ago. I’ve almost got it memorized, but since I only make it 3 times a year, I am never confident enough to make it without the recipe in front of me. And for some unknown reason, the recipe seems to disappear between each holiday and I must search for it each time.

This year, when I recovered the recipe once again, I vowed to type it down and share it here, so even if the sheet of paper decides to hide again before Christmas, I’ll know exactly where to find it.

cheese log

Holiday Cheese Log

2 (8 oz) packages of cream cheese, softened
1 jar Kraft Old English Cheese
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 tsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp grated onion (I used dried, minced onion)
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp dry chives
1 tsp parsley
1 Tbsp mayonnaise

Set cheeses out until they are room temperature and then mix everything in a large bowl. Separate onto two large pieces of foil and shape into log or ball. Wrap in foil and refrigerate for several hours. Eat with crackers.

Thanksgiving with my sister and her family was wonderful. The food, prepared by my sister and me, was delicious, if I do say so, and the kids loved spending some quality time with their Aunt, Uncle, and cousins. The biggest hit of the day was my sister’s Rainbow layered jello and homemade whipped cream. I sense a new tradition popping up.

Necco and Reese could not get enough of their newest cousin. As small as Reese is, she was a perfect little babysitter and knew exactly how to hold and comfort her little cousin.

Since I was busy cooking, I didn’t get many pictures, so here are a few that my sister took (so much better than mine!)…

I’m so glad you did it! Now we have to have it every year! Thank you SO much for taking so many gorgeous pictures! I am so bad about taking pics on days that I’m in the kitchen a lot. :)

My sister said that it took her hours to make. But we all loved it, so it was worth the effort!

That cheese log sounds yummy! Thanks for sharing it. :-) It looks like you had a fabulous Thanksgiving complete with wonderful company, happy memories and delicious food.

I made peppermint bark for the first time the other. You’ll have to stop and see the results. ;-)
