A year ago today, AJ and I were playing outside at the park. Without our coats on. That, my friends, is a normal February day in Maryland.
The crazy weather we’ve had this week is not normal.
Tonight, the snow is falling once again. By tomorrow night, there should be another 15-or-so inches on top of the 30 we’ve already gotten. The 30 inches that still have not been properly cleaned up. But, don’t let me get started on that.
This could have been a nightmarish week. The kids are having an unexpected Winter Break in February. A Winter Break that happens to be just as long as the original one around the holidays. We could be miserable. But somehow we’re not. Somehow we’re enjoying each other, being lazy, and not going anywhere.
Once the kids head back to school on Tuesday of next week (yes, schools are closed for another week) they will have had a nine-day weekend, as KitKat has called it.
The kids are enjoying the time off. Watching lots of Little House on the Prairie, playing with neighbor friends, having sleep overs in the middle of the week. It’s like a free-for-all.
They even decorated a gingerbread house and ate it as soon as they were done. They were thrilled. (Truthfully, they just wanted to eat all of the candy without making the house, but I told them they had to at least put it together. I just didn’t make them keep it up)
Tonight, Necco is sleeping over at a friend’s house, AJ and KitKat are having a “sleepover” in the basement, and Twizzler and Reese are having a sleepover in Twizzler’s room. Me? I think it’s time for a homemade smoothy.
While you’re here, go check out my guest post on From the Trenches of Motherhood. I tell a funny story about traveling (locally!) with young children.
Happy Wordful Wednesday!

Oh, I’m thinking of you all and your weather! It’s cold here, but nothing in comparison to the East Coast!

Yes, it is pretty insane. The sad thing is that I cleared my van completely and now it’s covered again!!

I have been thinking about my homeschooling friends! I must say that it’s nice to be stuck inside with no responsibilities, but it does get a little boring after a while!
Lolli says
Oh boy, we don’t have school until (possibly) next Tuesday. And we’re supposed to get more snow on Monday, so we might not make it on Tuesday, either. It’s insane!!
Lolli says
I am heading over to look at your pictures now!
Lolli says
You haven’t gotten all the emails? Yes, the quorum of the 12 officially cancelled conference for this weekend. No church. No nothing.
We got a VERY QUICK sweep of our court, but mostly we dug ourselves out. I am still stuck. I didn’t want to tackle the 10 foot wide by 6 foot high wall behind my van.

I wish I could send some your way! I really do. We are going to be a swamp land once this stuff melts!
I am happy to snack on dried beans and sprouted wheat from your food storage when we GET TO MEET! ;)

Did the plows ever come? Your kids look like they are having tons of fun. We’re not having as much fun over here. But there is only so much you can do with babies. :) You think church will be canceled this week?

All my kids want to do now is watch videos and play games. It’s hard not to get out and interact!
Brandie says
Wow….I can’t believe it. Hope you all stay warm and enjoy all that snow really because it is really ours and we are needing it and you are getting it. We might not have any water when you come out in May. I will be sure my food storage is stocked up for your arrival hehe!

This is crazy isn’t it? I am in MD too. My son is already “bored.” No school all week, mom’s trying to work upstairs, and he wants to turn into a vegetable playing video games all day. I’m so mean!

What else is there to do but play on the computer (days that we have power, at least)?? Yes, it was recommended that I reduce the size of my header, and although I am not quite as fond of it, I’m hoping it will grow on me. All for the good of the blog, right?

You’ve been busy! Every time I come by, there are new changes to check out on your blog. Could it be that the cold weather is giving you the time you need to make these improvements? Whatever the case may be, I love it!
Hope the snow let’s up soon. Adored the pic of the kids making gingerbread houses. :)

Oh my…that’s ton of snow.
BTW, I have a question for you…I took your ISO info and took some inside pictures and they actually aren’t blurry..but they are so yellow. There’s the drawback to homeschooling…can I get away with a snow day? We’re getting 20+ inches tonite & tomorrow. UGH!
Looks like you’ve been having a great time being home together. Nothing better than cozy days in the house, tucked under blankets watching movies together… :)

I would say I feel sorry for you…except that we have it too : ) Not quite as bad though because they did have school today! No school tomorrow though. Even my job shut down in the city! YAY for that! So sleeping in tomorrow. Except I have to have the sidewalk shoveled by 10. MAN!

Your comment didn’t get eaten! It came though.
I got downstairs to the kitchen and was so cold I opted for hot chocolate instead of a smoothy. If I had made a smoothy, it would have contained OJ, vanilla yogurt, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, and a banana.
Tomorrow, for sure!
angie says
My comment just got eaten. What I wanted to say is that I’m glad you are surviving the snow. I’m astounded by the amount of it. What kind of smoothy did you have?
angie says
I’m glad you are surviving this. Still shaking my head over the sheer amount of snow you have and are getting. What kind of smoothy did you make?

I can imagine all the activities you have lined up for them to do at home. The snow is so pretty!

Sadly, that is not my car. You can see a picture of how buried my car was before I shoveled it out here: https://foodfunfamily.com/2010/02/who-needs-snow-plows.html

That’s exactly what it’s going to mean. Less summer! We haven’t heard the official word, but I’m assuming that we’re looking at June 18th at the earliest (June 15 was supposed to be the last day). And who knows if we’ll get more snow days to make it even longer!
Cecily R says
Welllllll, it sure looks pretty in pictures.
With all the school your kids have off, what does that mean for your summer vacation? Does it have to start late now?

Apparently, someone thinks so. We sure have had bulk snow this year!
Judy says
So, is snow better in bulk too? I’ve never seen so much snow in my life and I’m only looking at pictures.
